Home Based Business Opportunity Seekers: Two Important Components You Absolutely Must Possess

There are so many people hunting for a legitimate home based business opportunity that you’d have a tough time arguing against the face that it’s popularity is now on the rise. Just taking the USA alone, recent reports suggests that over 70 million people are intending to start their own home based business utilising the Internet as their primary platform.

MSNBC say that small home based businesses are behind around 75% of all new jobs that have been created across the country.

The US Census Bureau indicates that 49% of businesses in the US are home based businesses, with other industry analysts equating the number of Americans running a home based business to over 45 million.

All of these statistics point to the fact that today, despite any economic turmoil, it is now easier than ever to start up your own business with the aid of the Internet. In fact, to further prove this point, a recent survey by Yahoo!? of it’s users say that 75% who run businesses have directly credited the Internet as being the major contributing factor in the set-up of their business.

Indeed, despite the apparent risk of setting up a new business in the middle of one of the worst global recessions in history, it seems that there is a definite turn towards self-reliance amongst the population. As survival mode kicks in, people begin to realise that the only ‘rescue package’ that is going to save their own personal economic situation comes from themselves, and not the government or any other external body.

The bad news is that even though more and more people are starting up their own home bases businesses, 97% of them either have or will fail.

For any business to survive, irrespective of the economy, there must be a steady flow of prospective customer leads, which in turn are responsible for sales and income. These leads will inevitably come from a variety of marketing activities, which makes the ability to market well, extremely important; lacking this ability can and will severely and fatally harm your business.

Not having the marketing skills required to grow your business will inevitably force you down the same road that so many failed business owners have gone down, where they are forever pumping money into poor marketing, that never sees any return. This can have a massive drain on the finances of your business, and when the money runs out is usually when the business finally runs out of steam too.

For businesses that grow and are successful, there are two main components contributing to their success:

Marketing

Being able to market your business properly is one of the most important ingredients in having a successful business. Some businesspeople may claim that they don’t market their business, but rely on the endorsements and testimonials of their customers. But it is as a result of receiving quality and value that these customers are ’spreading the word’, and as such, referral marketing is still marketing, whether these businesses see it that way or not.

By delivering value to the customer, a referral process, that becomes viral as one person tells another, quickly spreads the marketing message that this particular company or person is the place to go for whatever particular product or service is being provided. How many times have you recommended, or been recommended, a good car mechanic based on the experience of someone else? Which did you place more faith in; the word of the person making the recommendation, or the big flash advertisement placed by another competing company?

This referral process, gives a good representation of what happens with social media, and why social media marketing is successful. By leveraging websites such as Twitter or Facebook, many home based business owners are driving traffic and leads to their websites without having to spend a penny!

Providing value to your customers and your prospective customers, which then results in more customers being attracted to you because of your perceived value is clearly one of the most valuable marketing techniques that everyone should be using. If you are not utilising this amazing marketing strategy or don’t know how, then you should quickly learn how with some comprehensive training.

Lacking the ability to really take advantage of the power of the Internet and market online can really leave your business in the dark. Worse still, your whole business could fail as others with the necessary skills take advantage.

System

There are many businesses that have grown at an explosive rate over the years, and most of them have been Internet based. It wasn’t that long ago that Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and even Google were not even on the radar!

However, whilst the Internet has helped to move things along at a much faster rate, it’s not the only major factor in their success. There are many more ‘traditional’ businesses such as McDonald’s? or KFC? that have another core element that is vital to their success:

A System!

How else would McDonald’s be able to operate with only minimum wage staff if were not for a system that literally anyone can follow? Systems and standardised processes are used in all successful businesses, and if you want to be successful in marketing online, you need to employ a system too.

A system allows you to leverage your time, to free you from the mundane and tedious tasks, which have to be done, but would be better done by an automated system than by you.

The ‘telling and selling’ processes of your sales funnel are prime candidates for a system. Sales is just a game of numbers, where the more prospective customers you’re able to push through your system, the more sales you will make.

If this is all news to you and sounds complicated, then your prospects for succeeding in any home based business are going to rely heavily on you getting educated in how to market effectively online. Even if this is all old news to you, and you’ve heard it all before, then proceeding without a system is only going to mean you exerting lots of time and energy unnecessarily.

Apart from your mindset and drive to succeed, a marketing system combined with a proper marketing education is vital if you want to achieve success with your own home based business.
